The iconic Smiley bead is Bailey of Sheffield’s homage to one of the most recognisable designs in history.
The Smiley has travelled far from its birth in the early 1960s, changing continually: from a 60’s show of defiance to an early-70s fad to the infamous late-80s acid house scene, right through to today’s ubiquitous emoji. That's quite some journey for a simple logo.
Designed by Harvey Ball in 1963 the Smiley became a symbol for the hippy movement and an emblem for the late 1960’s resistance against mainstream society.
In the early 1970’s tie-dye and flares were worn and there was talk of love, peace and unity. The Smiley became an image of this and 1970's psychedelia.
The smiley was also a representative icon of 1980's club culture and the warehouse scene, becoming the face of acid house at the very beginnings of the UK acid house scene in 1987 and the image of the second Summer Of Love.
The Bailey of Sheffield Smiley bead is formed from 316L stainless steel using the latest cutting-edge 3D printing technology.
Beautifully designed to sit proudly on your CABLE™ bracelet, this Smiley design not only looks amazing but is made to last more than a lifetime.
